What the fuck?

So get this. Apparently I can't get a job because I don't demonstrate 'financial need'? What the fuck is this bullshit? I've been living on my own since I was 18 and the only funding I had to go to university last year was OSAP, which I spent all of for that year. I was able to get a job that year (regardless, it seems, of the $7k I had in savings at that point) but I wasn't able to get a job with the same program this year because I had $10k in savings. I managed to save $3k over the entire summer and somehow this means I am no longer in need. School is even more expensive this year than last with their estimate being $15k. FIFTEEN! If that were true (which it isn't) then I would have $6k left in savings (from working my ass of since I was 18) meaning I'd have less than I did my first year. Which brings me back to my title statement of "what the fuck?"

Anyway, I know most people would argue that most students have no money at all and I would agree. I'm one of the rare few students who exercises control when it comes to spending, and our peers are always telling us to save our money because we'll be thankful in the end. Well look where it got me. Fuck.

Well, I'm not actually as mad as the above would seem to suggest as I'm 85% confident that I have a job at the sports centre here as the videographer for games. It's still annoying though, that was a lot of paper work that I had to fill out.

Stolen from Anne

Bold those that apply most to you.

1. High school started before 8am, but now anything before noon is considered “early”.

2. You have more beer than food in your fridge.

3. Weekends start on Thursday. stupid 8:30AM Friday class.

4. 6AM is when you go to sleep, not when you wake up.

5. You know many different ways to cook ramen noodles or macaroni and cheese.

6. The health centre gives out free condoms, and people take them... just in case.

7. Instead of falling asleep in class, you stay in bed.

8. You know how late McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Qdoba, etc. are open.

9. You think it’s the weekend on a Wednesday and you don’t know what month it is.

10. You can’t remember the last time you washed your car.

11. Your underwear/sock supply dictates your laundry schedule. It's dangerously low, and my laundry room exploded :(

12. You check Facebook/Myspace more than once a day.

13. You get drunk dialed on any night of the week.

14. You wash dishes in the bathroom sink.

15. You’ve fallen off a loft bed.

16. You talk about beer pong like it’s a sport.

17. Finding random people in your house is perfectly normal, and you even sympathize with them... sometimes when you wake up you have no idea where you are.

18. Your primary news sources are the Daily Show and the Colbert Report.

19. You open a beer at 10 am and your roommate asks you if there’s more.

20. The standard of meals per day falls to two, sometimes just one.

21. Your trash is overflowing and your bank account isn’t.

22. You go to Target or Wal-Mart more than 3 times a week.

23. You wear the same jeans for 13 days without washing them. Never in a row!

24. Your breakfast consists of a coke or cereal bar on the way to class... anything with caffeine will do. Stupid stomach acid.

25. Quarters are like gold.

26. Your idea of feeding the poor is buying yourself some ramen noodles.

27. You live in a house with three couches, none of which match.

28. You try to study but seem to procrastinate by eating, going to study breaks, talking to people, etc... I can pretty much find anything else but my homework to do, lol.

29. You talk to your roommate on instant messenger when you’re both home. Not quite, I talk to other people on the same floor though.

30. You ask people what YOU did last night.

31. Certain things are now deemed “Facebook worthy.” When friends take pictures of you, you wonder how long it will take them to post them.

32. You’ve seen a hit and run involving a bicyclist/pedestrian.

33. You see people you know you’ve met but can never remember their names or how you know them.

34. You sleep more in class than in your room.

35. Your idea of a square meal is a box of Pop-Tarts.

36. You’ve travelled with bags of dirty clothes.

37. You go home to do your laundry because you’re too poor to pay the $2... or too lazy to go to a change machine.

38. You pay $100 for a book you don’t read once, return it four months later, and get $7.

39. More than 20% of your household furnishings are made from milk crates.

40. You recognize the meat in the dorm soup as yesterday’s meatloaf, and thus decide to eat a nice bowl of cereal - a safe bet for any meal.

41. You use words like “thus” (see #40). I did that long before university.

42. You throw out bowls and plates because you don’t feel like washing them.

43. Your beer pong table is nicer than all your other tables.

44. It takes preparation... and 3 people... to take out your garbage.

45. Going to the library is a social event.

46. You wear flip flops in the shower your freshman year... you know why. I have my OWN shower!

47. You start joining clubs because of the free food.

48. Visits home depend on how much money you have for gas.

49. You skip one class to write a paper for another.

50. You have no idea where your tuition money is going... technology fees? I think not.

51. Bicycles don’t seem as lame as they did in high school. Bikes are, and have always been, awesome.

52. You stay up late to finish homework then sleep through the class in which it was due.

53. Girls: You’ve balanced your foot on a shampoo bottle to shave.

54. Your backpack is giving you scoliosis.

55. You’ve written a check for 45 cents or stopped to get $2.00 of gas.

56. Your bill in the bookstore will be comparable to tuition.

57. Going to the mailbox becomes an ego booster/breaker.

58. Most of your T.A.’s are foreign... what’s the deal?

59. You never realized so many people are smarter than you.

60. You never realized so many people are dumber than you.

61. Western Europe could be wiped out by a terrible plague and you’d never know, but you can recite the last episode of your favorite show verbatim.

62. Care packages rank right up there with birthdays.

63. You craft ways to make any game into a drinking/stripping game.

64. You meet the type of people you thought only existed in movies. Oh, Katy!

65. Printers break down only when you desperately need them.

66. Anything can be cooked in a microwave.

67. Two words: bike cops.

68. You have Safe Ride programmed into your phone.

69. Old school Nintendo... and guitar hero... are pretty much the best things ever.

70. Going to the grocery at midnight is completely normal. And buy only Gingerbeer.

71. You call restaurants that deliver more than you call your own family.

72. You’ve paid bills over $5... in coins.

73. You can’t imagine life without your computer/cell phone/ i-pod.

74. Hoodies and sweatpants become the norm - jeans are considered “dressy” at certain occasions… like school.

75. A cancelled class is almost as exciting as Christmas.

76. Taking a nap in the library is perfectly acceptable.

77. Your professors speak English... as a second language. We are currently debating whether the Geology teacher is native to Africa or Jamaica.

78. Your teachers swear in class and no one cares. "Crack babies are terrible" ~Philosophy prof

79. Candles in your dorm room are considered contraband, but cigarettes are ok.

80. You take condiment packets and napkins from fast food restaurants - hey, they’re free.

81. Betta fish are like your family.

82. You bring back socks from the laundry room that may or may not be yours.

83. You know what people carrying suspiciously heavy backpacks after dark are doing...

84. The elevators take forever but you’ll wait 10 minutes just so you don’t have to climb stairs.

85. Your roommate asks you to check the weather on your computer when they’re standing 5 feet away from the door. I don't have a roomie, but I still check the weather every morning.

86. Showers become more of an issue.

87. You press the automatic door opener instead of simply grabbing the handle when you approach a door.

88. Christmas lights seem to be acceptable all year round.

89. Class size doubles on exam days. To the point where I've seen people I never even knew existed.

90. You donate plasma even though you know it’s pretty sketchy.

91. You are no longer thankful that fire alarms are here to protect you.

92. You’ve bought Christmas presents from the book store and charged it to your student account so your parents pay for the gifts because you’re too broke.

93. You begin to include ketchup on your list of acceptable vegetables.

94. You stay on campus for hours in between classes when it’s too cold to walk home.

95. People have to help you kick the vending machine just so you can get your 50 cent bag of chips.

96. There’s always a “question kid” in at least one of your classes, and you really wish someone would just tell him/her to shut the hell up.

97. You steal dishes from the cafeteria so you don’t have to wash your own.

98. Laundry is an all-day event.

99. You no longer find it uncool to take naps. In fact, you quite enjoy them.

100. It’s illegal to drink in the dorms yet they sell an assortment of shot glasses, beer mugs, tankards, etc. in the bookstore.

101. You find your list of acceptable napping places expanding daily to increasingly uncomfortable locations.

102. You fill out credit card applications for the free food.

103. You’ve eaten cereal out of a cup... with a fork.

104. Dressing up for Halloween becomes cool again.

105. You know at least one person who has dropped his/her cell phone into a toilet.

106. You hang multiple shirts on the same hanger to save space/money. I have a chest of drawers!

107. You become increasingly annoyed with the “old” people in class - props to them for going back to college but they generally ask really, really annoying questions.

108. You admire people’s alcohol bottle shrines. Crazy Townies.

109. You set your clock 5-10 minutes ahead so you can potentially make it to class on time.

110. You check ratemyprofessor.com (or something of the like) before choosing your class schedule.

111. You text faster than you type.

112. You only find out a class is cancelled after you get there and sit for about ten minutes.

113. You actually start using coupons, especially those school coupon books.

114. You open canned food and eat it... out of the can.

115. You run out of black ink and, instead of buying a new ink cartridge, decide blue is a nice substitute… adds a little flair.

116. You have numbers in your phone with labels like “Sketchy Steve” and “Alcohol Guy.”

117. The food in your fridge may or may not be older than your little brother.

118. You finish reading this and wonder how you can procrastinate next. XD

So anyway, to finally solve last updates deliema, the bookstore was open the next day and I bought my phonecard.

In other news, I rode a two horse open sleigh today! That was exciting indeed.

The Case of the Mysterious Bookstore

So, my girlfriend and I talk over the phone generally every night, right? This is done through the purchase of $20 phone cards. I can generally stretch it 2 or 3 weeks and Caitlin, maybe one week. Anyway, mine ran out on Thursday and I was busy on Friday (Geology field trip) and the school bookstore is closed on weekend so I had to wait till Monday to get a new card (a prospect that Caitlin was not pleased with). So, on Monday I go to the bookstore and lo and behold it's closed about an hour before it should be, BUT there is a "Will be back at" sign. Curiously enough it was set to 8:30 (the bookstore opens at 8:30 and closes at 4:30). Anyway, I go do some other stuff and come back later. It's still closed when I get back and as I'm standing there trying to think of my next plan of action, the vice president of the student council strolls by and comments that the bookstore hasn't been open all day. Odd. Caitlin was not pleased with this at all, but she understood my dilemma. I'm not from Sault Ste. Marie, so I have no idea where I could find a convenience store that would sell phone cards besides the school bookstore. Thus, the only thing I could do was wait till Tuesday and try again. Unfortunately, due to various things that came up, such as work and OSAP issues, this never happened and I missed the time frame. So finally, today (Wednesday) during Philosophy (which starts at 4PM) I realize I haven't gone to the bookstore and rush out of class. Of course, the bookstore is STILL closed with the only difference being that someone removed the store hours sheet. So I'm getting pretty annoyed and decided I must start an investigation. My first step, I go to the student council office and ask the lady working there is she knows what's up with the bookstore. She says no, but that it hasn't been open all week and suggests I go to the administration office. So, after class I go to the main office, but since it's 5PM everyone is gone, just the secretary remains. I ask her if she knows what's up and she tells me she received an email concerning it and pulls it up for me. Basically, the guy who runs it is at a corporate function and says it will not be open at regular hours till next Monday BUT it does say that the store will be open from 8:30 till noon until he gets back. I tell the secretary that it hasn't been open at the revised hours either and she tells me I'll have to take it up with the ancillary operations official, who has already gone home. So, now I have to wait till tomorrow to speak to him (assuming the store is not open prior to noon tomorrow either). I will not give up my investigation goddammit!

Random Observations #1

I dunno if I'm the first one to notice this, but...

Has anyone else ever noticed the etiquette of daily greetings? Like, good morning cannot be said while departing, only when arriving. But, you can say good afternoon in both arrival and departure. Same applies to good evening. And again, like the first (but reversed), you can only say good night when departing. Can you imagine walking into a room and having someone greet you saying, "Good night Mr. Glandrid! Fancy seeing you here." Although you can say that it IS a good night to someone, in greeting. Anyway, this is a random observation. Your thoughts?

^.^ KITTY ^.^

So I get home today, all prepped to do my Sociology ISU in one night but lo and behold!, my mother wants me to cut the front lawn before it rains! Apparently my passing Sociology is less important to her than having her lawn cut.

Anyway, to make a long story short, the lawnmower wouldn't start (half hour of pulling the starter-cord anyone?) and my hand hurts like no tomorrow. So we gave up (after much arguing about how I was doing it wrong (regardless of the fact I've been doing it for at least 10 years(if not more))) and I went inside, took a shower and made a bagel, but here is where it gets interesting. There was a strange cat outside my patio window. He was small, orange(Garfield orange), and seemed domesticated. I asked my mom and she told me he'd been hanging around Moxy all day and smelling each other. This may not seem out of the ordinary to you, but my Moxy isn't a very social cat when it comes to his fellow felines. He doesn't (usually) fight them or anything, but he keeps his distance and usually intemidates them away (he's a big and tough looking kitty).

So I go about my usuals and mom tells me to put away the mower for her. While I'm putting it away I run into this orange cat again. Everytime I approch him he runs away so I though, "Hey, when people are trying to get animals to be friendly, they give them food!" so I grab a handful of food (after distracting Moxy) and hold my hand out to this kitty. He'd edge closer, then back away. Edge closer, back away. This went on for a while till Moxy made his way over. As soon as he showed up the mysterious kitty came over and ate the food. Interesting.

So I let him smell me and he eventually lets me pet him. He must be domesticated a litte because he didn't hiss/spit or anything plus his coat is soft and well groomed. I thought maybe he was someones house cat but he lacks identification, made my hand smell kinda bad and is really skinny so I'm thinking he may be someones outdoor cat.

Anyone have any ideas on his origins or associations based on my study? If he's still hanging around tomorrow I'll give him a name. Since he kinda looks like Chiyo-chi-chi, I think I'll name him that.

Phill out!

I haven't been around in a while, nor will I (most likely) in the future for highschool is one ugly bitch and she likes to take up all my free time.

Not much to report about my life, not much to rant about. Nothing happens around here, and if it does, it's only for a short time. Life is like a desert where the oasis's are few and far between and have a nasty tendancy to dry up rather quickly. Oh, woe is me! I'm not depressed or anything (which is a nice change) but am 'disgruntled' I guess.

Check out my webcomic!

2005 in a Nutshell

Scooped the idea from myshu

The idea is that you take the first sentence or two from you first entry of every month

January:This Xmas sucked. Not suprising though, I expected it too.
Febuary:All this weekend I've been working on this video game called RPG which stands for Ripped of by Phill Games.
March:So I woke up Saturday to my mom screaming about how we were going to my Aunts, whether I liked it or not.
April:Today was rather interesting. I took a law trip to a criminal court!
May:So I got home and I started cutting the lawn.
June:Hm, lots of things have been happening lately.. I lost my internet for a month and a half if anyone cared, I now am dating the most wonderful woman in the world and school is almost done!
July:What have I been up to? I was in Trenton for half the week from Monday to Thursday.
August:N/A
September:Recently my mood has been changing constantly on the turn of a dime.
October:It's been a while... about a month. Anyway, I'm doing a lot better now. I got a SCANNER!!!
November:I am now offically 17! Huzzah!
December:I'm the type of person who needs to have a goal, it keeps me busy.

This year I started and failed a bunch of projects, woke up on Saturday, cut lawn, spent a lot of time in Trenton, got a scanner, turned 17 and got a goal. Woo, good thing all the depressing stuff is usually at the end of my journals. HA.

I'm the type of person who needs to have a goal, it keeps me busy. Anyhow, I just recently(after about 5 months) finally got one that I can really look forward to! I figured out what I want to do this summer!

No more sitting around wish I had a job cause I'll be my own boss. I'm going to draw caricatures!! My plan is to meet with the manager of a local Provincal beach and ask permission to draw my caraicatures there. I'm going to charge $2 for one. Although it doesn't seem like much, it is. Pro caricaturists charge anywhere between $10-$20 for one caricatures but the thing is, $2 is just change! That's the beauty of it.

People are reluctant to spend paper money but when it comes to coins they're a-ok with spending it, trust me, I know. Plus all the little kids that will beg and plead with their parents to let them get one...

But of course, it's not all about the money, that's just a perk. I'll be doing something I love. Drawing! What's even better is the fact that I could be discovered, or maybe a journalist will write an article about the 17 year old kid who draws caricatures at the beach!!

Wow, I'm getting ahead of myself. I'm not even sure if people will want caricatures, let alone drawn by me. I'm not the best artist in the world >_> And I don't even know if I can do it at the beach. What if you can't do that type of thing on government property? Well, I'm sure I can set up a booth SOMEWHERE. I just can't wait! w00t

17! Ahaha!

I am now offically 17! Huzzah!

Not much has been happening with me lately, dunno if I meantioned it her or not(cause I'm to lazy to check) but my brother moved home. At first it was okay, but that's quickly degrading for multiple reasons (ie: all his crap is in my room, he stupid and the house now smells like smoke/weed all the time when he is here. Not only that but he unplugs my alarm clock EVERY SINGLE DAY just so he can hook up his stereo. So annoying!!)
I hate school so much. Argh, I have no time for anything anymore. I signed up to do the novel in a month compitition and have yet to start but I guess I shouldn't complain, I AM in grade 12. Oh well...

Anyway, I am so happy. I really didn't expect many of my friends to remember my birthday at all this year, but a large portion of them did. I got my happy birthdays then I could count as opposed to the measly but still appreciated three or four I got(In real life, I got some on the web too).

What FLCL Character Are You?

Hosted by theOtaku.com: Anime.

ARGH!! I don't have a lot of time, so I'll be brief.

Firstly, I have a massive project due Thursday and I still have to write a three page informative essay and make a display.

Secondly, I need to do better in school. I'm only passing one class good, the rest I must be getting 60's or lower in.

Thirdly, a pipe blew up in my basement and my basement flooded and I had no water for a day or two. That was rough/scary.

Fourthly, my brother is moving home! Argh no, he sucks. He'll steal the computer, smoke, do drugs and be generally annoying as hell. I hope he doesn't move here, or atleast doesn't for long.

Oh, I'm sure there is more I could go on about but on a lighter note, my scanner is up and working! I'll have some stuff up tomorrow(hopefully). At least I'm emotionally happy; I've been really enjoying the time I've been able to spend with my girlfriend lately, and that's good... I need a job! Argh!

It's been a while... about a month. Anyway, I'm doing a lot better now. I got a SCANNER!!! YES~! and even better... the scanner came with an MP3 player!! Could I be any happier? Well infact, yes I could as I got myself a girlfriend! She's great.

Now I gotta start thinking about university and crap. Somehow I managed to get signed up to do a pilgramige where you have to raise $25(minimum) and I'm terrible at raising money. I dunno what I'm gonna do! Ughhagada~`

Anyway, this time I plan to update more often, really!

I sure haven't been over here in a while. Sorry to anyone who actually reads this!

Recently my mood has been changing constantly on the turn of a dime. One minute I'm sad, the next I'm numb, the next I'm happy then I go back to sad and so on. Right now I feel okay though, so I guess that's good. I have to get used to being single again cause my lady up and dumped me.

Hm, I really don't have much to say, I guess I should've thought about what to say before I came here and started typing. Oh well, I'll try to update again soon as I have something worth reading.

Mmm, beach

So today is the day of the amazing Beach Party 2005!

I biked down there with some stereo speakers this morning at around 9:25AM. My water bottle was frozen so I couldn't drink from it so I was forced to go out to sea but alas! Some scurvy dog made me forget to wear swim trunks so I had to swim in my birthday suit. Let me tell you, what everyone says about skinny dipping is true; it's great. It's really different from swimming with a swim suit and I think everyone should try it at least once. Luckly no one was there to see it though, I'm sure no one wants to see my ugly pitch white body, lol.

Well, I'm off to shower and shave and such in preperation for da party!

This hasn't been a delightful summer so far but plans are in the works for a beach party on the 12th to the 13th. Things are pretty iffy right now though. I finished Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets yesterday, now I'm half way through Prisoner od Azkaban. I'm getting myself ready for Half-Blood Prince which I will most likely borrow from someone at some point. In the mean time I've been brewing a original fiction around in my head.. I really want to write it but I have yet to actually do it and I don't know why. Meh.

Oh, I also drew something! This may not seem like a big deal to most but it is to me as I've had artist block for way to long. Now all I need is a scanner and a pick to break my writers block. Toodles.

What have I been up to? I was in Trenton for half the week from Monday to Thursday. I was spending time with my friends and my girlfriend. We were thinking of doing a short film as a welcome back present for a friend but my mom busted me and dragged me back home >_< Since then I've been mowing the lawn for the past 3 days. I just finished today after ridding a bike 10km from my bothers house to mine. Add 20-30km and I would be in Trenton(a nearby town). I've also been setting up my weight set again. I used to work out back in grade 9 and 10 but I kinda slacked off during grade 11. I've got a bench and all sorts of stuff; I even got a 10 week workout plan from my friend. It's apparently what the military uses so it has to be good! I'll be finished that by September. I'm also looking into a job at a local vineyard.

Anyway, it's late and I'm tired. I'm re-reading Harry Potter so I'm ready for the new book and I'm playing Chrono Cross too. I really should be working on RPG or one of my fiction ideas but I've been particularly lazy lately so I guess I won't. I'm supposed to go to the beach tomorrow, should be fun. Anyway, I'm off for tonight. Fare the well good reader!

Hm

Today was interesting to say the least.

I woke up at 9AM and then forced myself back into a fitful sleep until 11AM. Then I got ready and left for the beach, for the first time this year. After a very long wait we(my two neighbours) finally got there. I handed in a resume then we went to the lake. Lemme tell you, that thing was ICE COLD! My feet actually HURT it was so cold. We then decided to go to the bay side which was relievingly warmer. After a 15 minute dip we were going to leave when all the sudden one of my friends friends suddenly showed up. He dragged us back into the bay where we played with a nerf ball for a while tossing it back and forth to one another. It was a lot of fun. Then we biked back and played Call of Duty : Finest Hour. That game is sooooo hard!

Tomorrow I'm catching a bus into school to see Tasha. We are hopefully going to spend the day together if everything goes as planned. I really can't wait! Then afterwards we are going to a party. Should be fun. I'll report back!

Hm, lots of things have been happening lately.. I lost my internet for a month and a half if anyone cared, I now am dating the most wonderful woman in the world and school is almost done! Now all thats left is getting a job and making my LJ layout better. I'm such a happier person now, which is good, but now one of my other friends is a completely cynical jerk sometimes. I worry about him... So, it's different having a girl friend. I promised myself I wouldn't bother with women anymore but.. she's different, and that's good.

I've become much closer friends with people I was astranged to before, which is great because I was really missing out on some great things. It's strange, you think you know someone and then they can turn an entirely new face. I have also discovered a new career I like! ANIMATION!!

One day I am going to fly over the ocean, find a island and then make a castle on it and make it my country. I will call it Halloween Island!! In honour of Easter and Christmas Island's. It will be awesome. Almost forgot, I have a brillient idea for a novel. I'll start it this summer.

Sun Kissed

So I got home and I started cutting the lawn. It was a pretty damn hot day today so my mom suggested I wear shorts. Made sense so I did. So I mowed from around 3:45 to 5:25. When I went in to take by shower I found blood all over my legs. Turns out some bugs were drinking me. Now I have a whole bunch of red marks on my legs.

On the bright side I got a job interview at a local store! It turned out pretty well, we talked about computers and such. Then my bicycle got stolen. My $300 dollar bicycle.

I live in a pretty small town, around 40 people and everyone I know leaves their bikes out on their lawn. I am the only person in my entire town who parks my bike in behind my house. My next door neighbour has a $35o brand new bicycle in a bike rack out front of there house. My bike was stolen. Thats not all, the bicycle was stolen in BROAD DAYLIGHT!! From 9AM to 3PM!! Now I have to ride this crappy old speed bike that has a leak in one of its tires. Fucking bullshit. I hate life so much sometimes.

Oh and I did this newspaper for English on Macbeth. The whole class did it and you were allowed to form groups of 3-4. I was away and didn't get to pick my group members so I decided to do it on my own. My paper was 9 pages and I did more than half of the things to do on the list. It took a full day! When I handed it in my teacher told me I did more then most groups of four. Gawd. Why do I even bother?

Today was werid. I missed my bus and tried to phone my mom but she was on it so I decided to walk downtown with my friend and we talked about Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, of which we are seeing tomorrow with a bunch of friends! He was handing out resumés at places and then we took our seperate ways. On my way back to school... it started hailing! THATS RIGHT! Its almost May for christsakes! Lucky for me I had my trusty ball cap and my trench coat so I went un-scathed.

In other news I handed in my resumé at a local groccer. I hope I get hired, I'd sure like some money.
